Cause

Fungal growth due to organic matter that has fallen onto the roof from overhanging branches

Repair

  • cut  back any overhanging branches to reduce the likelihood of debris on the roof
  • clean the roof with a solution of 1 part household bleach to 4 parts water to restrict moss growth; brush on with a soft broom
  • treat the roof with a fungicide according to the manufacturer’s instructions
  • replace badly affected shingles
