Ceilings – plasterboard flush-stopped joints have ridge

Cause

Slight over-filling of the joint which becomes obvious in glancing light conditions (light parallel to the surface such as from a wall washer light fitting)

Repair

  • paint walls with a low sheen or matt finish to reduce the visual impact of the peaking or irregularities on the wall
  • paint using a long pile roller to give a textured paint finish
  • wallpaper the wall if repainting will not be sufficient
  • re-sand joints and repaint
  • consider avoiding the use of wall washer type lighting to restrict the amount of glancing light
