Cause

Impact damage or improper use

Repair

  • cut power to the outlet by removing the appropriate fuse or tripping the appropriate circuit breaker on the distribution/switchboard; check that power has been cut by plugging in a light known to work; remove and replace the socket outlet; re-insert fuse or circuit breaker. (If wiring or insulation is brittle or frayed, contact a registered electrician to rewire the circuit.)
