Fibrous plaster cornices or ceiling roses cracked

Repair

  • if cracking or damage of cornices/ceiling rose is not too severe:
    • remove loose or flaky plaster
    • wipe the area with a damp cloth to remove dust
    • fill gaps or cracks wider than 3 mm with appropriate filler material
    • apply fibreglass tape to cracks; if the tape doesn’t adhere, apply a thin layer of gypsum stopping compound to bed the tape into
    • apply gypsum stopping compound according to manufacturer’s instructions
    • sand, prime and paint to match the ceiling finish
  • for large areas of damage, the cornices/ceiling rose may need to be replaced
