Heat pump operation is interrupted for 1 hour or longer

Cause

Blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker

Repair

  • if the power goes off, turn the heat pump off
  • if the heat pump operation is interrupted for an hour or more, particularly where the air temperature is 10oC or less, do not turn the heat pump on again for 6–8 hours as the refrigerant may be too cold to properly and can damage the system. Instead:
    • set the pump on the emergency heating setting, which will allow the compressor and refrigerant to warm up to a temperature that will allow the refrigerant to flow freely
    • leave the pump on the emergency heating setting for 6–8 hours or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions
    • switch to normal heat setting
    • if no heat is generated once the system is turned on again, contact a professional repair person
