Laminated cupboards and benchtops – loss of surface colour or pattern

Cause

Normal wear and tear, or scratching by harsh cleaning

Repair

  • flat laminated surfaces can be restored by fixing new laminate over the top. The existing surface must be heavily sanded, then edge strips laid and trimmed. For the top, scribe the back edge to the wall to give a neat fit, then apply contact adhesive to both surfaces. It is a good idea to use small timber separators to keep the new top out of the adhesive until it is correctly positioned. Remove the separators progressively so that air is not trapped under the new laminate. Finally, trim the top
