Metal tile roofs – corrosion

Cause
Loss or breakdown of the stone chip coating or paint coating
Repair
- if the roofing is within the warranty period, contact the manufacturer.
- if the roofing is outside the warranty period, have the roof re-coated by a specialist applicator.

Air-borne salt accumulating under tiles, particularly where tiles are damaged

- if the roofing is within the warranty period, contact the manufacturer.

Erosion of the galvanising, zinc/aluminium or aluminium/zinc alloy coating, exposing the base metal

Roofing at the end of its serviceable life
Repair
- reroof with new tiles. If the old tile roof has met minimum Building Code durability provisions (it has lasted at least 15 years) a building consent is not required; if not, a consent must be obtained before reroofing
