Listed under: Interior, adhesives and sealants, adhesives, finishes, tiles, fixtures and fittings, benchtops
Cause
Movement (deflection) of substrate, or uneven substrate
Repair
- if the tiled bench was installed in recent years, call back the builder/installer to make repairs. The substrate should not deflect or be uneven. The law requires that building work be carried out competently and be fit for purpose
- if the bench is old or the builder/installer is no longer around, you can make repairs yourself if you have the knowledge, skills, experience and tools to do the job. Check with the tile supplier the requirements around installation
- the repair process is likely to involve removing all tiles, strengthening the substrate to stop movement, then applying tiles to a stable, clean, level substrate. Ensure the tiles are fully embedded in adhesive and that the entire contact area is covered with adhesive
- many homeowners may prefer to engage experts to carry out the repairs. Look for an experienced company with a good track record
