Timber deck posts – rot at base

Cause
The timber treatment was not adequate for the location
Repair
- temporarily support the structure then cut the rotten section off the base of the post; bolt-fix the shortened post to a stainless steel post bracket set into a concrete footing
- replace the rotten post with an H5-treated timber post fixed to a stainless steel post bracket set into a concrete footing

An H4 timber post was encased in concrete or in ground contact at the base
