Blocked drainage slots along bottom of drained cavity cladding

  • Gardens built up against the cladding

    How to repair

  • Build-up of dust/sand/dirt/debris from insects in the bottom of the cavity

    How to repair

Dust, dirt, air-borne salt build up on wall surfaces

Moss, mould or lichen on exterior walls

Staining of walls and/or eaves

Framing outline is visible on the cladding on cold mornings

  • Condensation is forming on cladding where there is insufficient or no insulation – when walls are uninsulated or have insufficient insulation, the area of cladding between the wall framing may become colder than where the cladding is fixed to the framing resulting in condensation forming on the cladding in a pattern.

    How to repair

  • Condensation forming at the framing locations when the wall is well insulated - this means that, due to thermal bridging, the framing is colder at the framing locations than where there is no framing, so moisture condenses at the framing locations

Painted timber weatherboards – paint chalking

  • Weathering, UV light exposure – chalking will be more visible with darker colours

Painted timber weatherboards – faded paint finish

  • Weathering, UV light exposure – darker colours are more prone to fading

Timber weatherboards – joints opening

  • Thermal expansion and contraction of timber

    How to repair

  • Timber swelling/shrinkage caused by moisture absorption into end grain if joints were not adequately primed before installation and painting or staining

    How to repair

Paint failure at joints and external corners of timber weatherboards
