Acrylic bench/vanity tops/units – surface damage
Listed under: Interior, fixtures and fittings, plastic, acrylic
Cause
Scratching
Repair
-
in the first instance, contact the installer, supplier or manufacturer of the acrylic unit for their advice. Some have repair kits or recommend specific repair materials
-
DIY kits of a gelcoat and hardener for treating minor scratching of acrylic units are available from plumbing and hardware suppliers. Finishing typically involves fine wet/dry sandpaper and water and then a spray coating on the clean dry surface. These systems are not suitable for repairing cracks
-
car polish may lessen the appearance of fine scratches. Test in an unobtrusive area first
-
if the scratching is unacceptable, replace the unit. Work on any pipework, fittings or appliances that are connected to a sanitary fixture (which includes a basin) is restricted work and must be carried out by a licensed or certifying plumber. Homeowners cannot work on water supply pipes or wastewater pipes themselves
