Carpet lifting at joints
Listed under: Interior, adhesives and sealants, adhesives, floor coverings, carpet, cladding, floors, moisture, leaks, weathertightness
Cause
Seam tape lost adhesion, or carpet coming unstuck where glued directly to floor
Repair
- if the carpet was installed in recent years, call back the original supplier/installer
- if the carpet is old, or the original installer is unknown or unavailable, call another carpet layer to remake the joints
Cause
Water leak
Repair
- finding the source of the water leak and fixing that first is the priority. If the leak is from a sanitary fixture (toilet, bath, shower, sink, basin or laundry tub) or water pipe supplying a sanitary fixture, the repairs must be made by a licensed plumber
- if you have difficulty finding the leak, contact an experienced building surveyor or licensed plumber for advice
- determine whether the leak has caused any problems beyond the carpet. For example, if the leak has gone unnoticed for a long time, it may be that there is other damage such as to wall framing or other building materials/elements. Any problems here must be addressed before carpet can be relaid
- remove wet carpet and wet underlay and allow to dry completely. Allow the floor beneath it to dry completely
- once the leak is repaired and the floor and carpet thoroughly dried, or new carpet acquired, reinstall the carpet
