Ceilings – timber boards cupping
Listed under: Interior, timber and wood-based, timber, ceilings, roof space, moisture
Cause
Cupping occurs because boards are drier on one side than the other resulting in uneven shrinkage, so cupping may indicate a higher moisture level in the ceiling space or a higher moisture level in the room
Repair
- identify and address the cause of the high moisture levels in the roof space (see 'Roof space dampness') and the room
- replace severely cupped boards, or replace ceiling if necessary
