Concrete or clay tiles – lead flashing lifting
Listed under: finishes, tiles, concrete and cement, concrete tiles, metal, Roof, cladding, flashings, wind, lead, roof cladding, concrete or clay tiles
Cause
Wind
Repair
-
if the flashing is intact and still in reasonable condition, re-dress (shape) it to the tile profile with a rubber hammer handle or similar object
-
if the flashing cannot be effectively redressed, it may need to be replaced. Lead is generally no longer used in building products today because of its toxic nature, but lead-free alternatives made from aluminium or composite materials are readily available. These are often much lighter than lead flashings – some manufacturers recommend spot adhesion of the flashing to the roofing with proprietary silicon adhesives. As with older-style flashings, leading edges must still be dressed down
-
when working at height, always let someone know. Ensure the access ladder is safe and is securely set up on stable ground. Where necessary, use a roof ladder or other safety system on the roof itself
-
check over a roof once a year to ensure it is in sound condition
Cause
