Laminated cupboards and benchtops – bulges forming in laminate (especially around the edges)

Cause
Moisture from a sink, plumbing leak, steam or condensation being absorbed by the substrate, causing it to swell and deform the laminate
Repair
- find and stop the source of moisture entry. Where swelling is less than 1-2 mm it may recede as the substrate dries. Larger swelling will not recede and, if unsightly, replace bench

Repair
- typically, laminate will need to be replaced, although it may be possible to readhere lifted laminate as follows:
- for bubbles in the centre, use a warm iron (over a cloth) to reactivate the adhesive and reinstate the bond. Press down on the surface to make good contact with the glue
- along edges, lift laminate carefully, then clean. Insert a contact adhesive with an ice-cream stick and firmly press down laminate until it adheres
