Asphalt shingles missing
Listed under: Roof, cladding, roof cladding, asphalt shingles
Cause
Wind
Repair
- replace individual shingles as required; fasten with 6 flat-head clouts per shingle
- if the roof is in poor condition or a large number of shingles are missing, it should be replaced.
- if new asphalt shingles are to be laid over existing shingle roof:
- use heavy duty shingles, as these are less likely to show irregularities from the shingles below.
- mechanically fix loose, curled or lifted shingles (or cut them away) to provide a smooth surface for laying the new shingles.
- sweep the roof with a stiff bristle brush to remove loose debris and clean to remove dust and dirt as required.
- install new roofing according to the manufacturer's requirements and instructions.
- if the old asphalt shingle roof has met minimum Building Code durability provisions (it has lasted at least 15 years) a building consent is not required; if not, a consent must be obtained before reroofing. Reroofing with a different cladding type will require a consent.
