Water damage to underside of timber or particleboard flooring
Causes
Wind-blown rain where the underside of flooring is not adequately protected
Leaks from a plumbing fixture or pipe
A cladding leak, particularly where a deck is attached to building

Cause
Wind-blown rain where the underside of flooring is not adequately protected
Repair
- replace damaged flooring as required
- install insulation if not previously installed or replace if insulation has suffered water damage; install insulation so that it is not compressed and fits snugly without gaps
- fix a sheet lining material such as plywood or fibre-cement to the underside of floor joists to provide protection to underside of flooring and bulk insulation materials such as polyester, fiberglass or wool insulation
- if a more extensive water entry problem is suspected, consult a building surveyor to report on problems and the extent of damage
